DO OVER

acrylic/paper
9" x 12"

Back in January,  I mounted a full sheet of Yupo paper  on large board and divided it into quarter sections.  This started out as a warm-up/exploratory painting exercise.  By the end of my session I liked 2 of the 4 paintings.  I set these aside and visited my other project.

A few weeks ago I reworked my 2 disliked paintings.  Here is an example of one of them in progress.  The finish version is above.

The two finished paintings (top & bottom) are even more to my liking.  This year, more than ever, my studio time has been about experimenting, exploring, letting go of what's not working, then reworking those paintings days later.  And lately this process of "do overs" has been working well for me.  I hope your time in the studio is working well for you.

POSSIBILITIES

Here are more paintings from my last few months of working away in the studio.  I have been painting small on both watercolor and Yupo paper.  It has taken awhile to discover a series but I think I have found an idea to explore.   Here are a few examples.

Its has been an interesting time just working in the studio, exploring.  If the next few paintings continue on this thread I have the series I was seeking.

All the above 9 x 12 inches, acrylic.

THE START OF MANY

9" x 12"

I photographed all the paintings today. A few are going back to the studio to be reworked.  The majority I will re-format, re-size, title, prepare for the web and another venues along with posting some here.  This painting was done earlier in the year - acrylic on transparent Yupo  (From Blick art store in Central Square, MA).  I love working on this surface!

MORE WORK

I found another stack of paintings I need to photograph.  This will keep me busy all afternoon.  The above one is acrylic/paper, 11 x 14 inches done on 2/1/15.  This is from the rough sketches I did below before the holidays.  Painting is a constant exploration.

1 MONTH LATER

Now one month later!  That is how long its been since I posted on my blog.  The good news is... I have been at the studio almost every day since that post.   These last several weeks I have been experimenting with ideas, surfaces and tools.  I think it has paid off.  Last week I was in a creative flow and am now excited about this new direction.  I have about 25 paintings to photograph tomorrow (this one a reference photo only).  Above is an example of my series.  All small works: 9 x 12 & 11 by 14 inches,  acrylic on paper.

Maybe I can post more often in the days to come as I have something to show for my absence.
